Elliot has been assessing his options following a testing start to the National League campaign, with injuries affecting his midfield choices and the transfer market still active for EFL clubs.
However, the Blues head coach said any addition must fit the club’s longer-term plan rather than merely provide temporary cover.
“We don’t want to sign just for the sake of it,” Elliot said. “We don’t want to fall into that trap of bringing players in because we’re short for short-term injuries and end up swollen as a squad and maybe not having the right balance.
“Anyone that comes in has got to be the right person, the right player.”
Elliot revealed that he had spoke to Tom Piatak II last week, about the club’s medium and long-term plans, and said he had received assurances that funding would be available should a suitable target emerge.
“I had a good chat with Tom last week, talking about the medium- to long-term plans,” he said.
“He’s got to set a budget as a club because you have to work to something, but he assured me that if the right person is there, then they’ll back us in what we need to do.
“It’s just making sure it’s the right person. We need to make ourselves better in everything we do and we know we’ve got the backing from the club for that.”
Elliot bolstered his squad with two signings last week, with the additions of Adam Desbois and loanee Luke Skinner, who made his debut away at Yeovil.
The head coach also highlighted how the current market is complicated by the EFL, as players may be holding out for a move higher up the pyramid.
He said: “This time of year, clubs are holding out, whether it’s finances, whether it’s players trying to go as high as possible,” he said.
“The biggest thing for me is that if it’s something there that we want to do, it will be there, but it’s got to make sense and it’s got to be the right person, the right player that can affect the team and make us better.”
Despite talking about potential additions, Elliot made it clear that signings so far have only made his squad stronger, highlighting Harvey Bunker, Brad Nicholson, Miguel Azeez and Kenton Richardson as examples of players who have made an impact.
