In a stunning twist, Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has finally broken his silence on the swirling transfer speculation linking him to both Manchester United and Arsenal this summer.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Swedish striker made it crystal clear:
“I will join Manchester United, but only on one condition.”
While Gyokeres didn’t reveal the exact details of his demand, sources close to the player suggest he wants guaranteed first-team football and assurances about the club’s ambitious project moving forward.
Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, but the 25-year-old insists that any talks with the Gunners were not as advanced as reported, paving the way for a potential blockbuster move to Old Trafford.
United manager Ruben Amorim is believed to be a big admirer of the prolific forward, who netted 43 goals in all competitions last season.
As transfer talks intensify, all eyes are now on whether United can meet Gyokeres’ condition and finally secure their new number nine.
Viktor Gyokeres made it clear to Manchester United that he didn’t want to join them – which left them to instead pursue Matheus Cunha. The Sporting Lisbon striker has been linked with a reunion with his former boss Ruben Amorim.
However the Swedish striker has no desire to head to Old Trafford and the Red Devils have had to go after other options. Gyokeres wants to remain playing in the Champions League and United cannot offer that, but a move to Arsenal may yet materialise.
The Swede scored a crucial equaliser from the penalty spot in the 11th minute of added time to force the Portuguese Cup into extra time before they eventually downed Lisbon rivals Benfica. Gyokeres’ next move remained front and centre afterwards.
