“They’ve made an offer…” – David Ornstein says Man Utd in talks to sign ‘world-class’ star for Amorim

According to David Ornstein, Manchester United has made progress toward signing Wolverhampton Wanderers player Matheus Cunha. The Athletic correspondent reports that the Red Devils have extended an offer to the Brazilian on personal terms.

United has had an incredible European campaign, going undefeated in every match as they prepare to play Tottenham Hotspur in an all-English Europa League final in just 11 days. However, their domestic play has fallen far short of expectations, as they currently sit in a dismal 15th place in the Premier League and have already had their worst season since the competition’s inception more than 30 years ago.

Ornstein: Man Utd Make ‘Personal Terms’ Offer to Matheus Cunha

Since the season is coming to an end, Cunha’s release clause from Wolves may become active, according to Ornstein.

As a result, manager Ruben Amorim is searching for possible additions to bolster his striking ranks, and Cunha has emerged as a top target for the Portuguese tactician. They are attempting to prepare personal terms in order to finalize a move for the Brazilian as soon as the transfer window opens.

He wrote in The Athletic:

“I don’t think it has died down, there’s just not a great deal that can happen until the season ends and his release clause becomes active.

“In the meantime Man Utd will seek to get personal terms in place – they’ve made an offer but I’m not aware of an agreement yet, so they’ll continue discussing it in an effort to get there. If/when that happens and the clause becomes active, they can get the deal done.

“Also they’ve got the small matter of a Europa League final to be focusing on, although European football will not impact their ability to sign Cunha.”

United is having trouble in most areas of the field this season, but Cunha’s “world-class” ability to finish and create chances would be extremely important for the Red Devils if they are to contend for European spots next season.

Joshua Zirkzee has only managed three goals in the Premier League so far this season, and his strike partner Rasmus Hojlund has barely exceeded that total with four goals.
