Rashford set to complete stunning U-turn on his future, Barcelona will be left distraught – report

The future of Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United, remains uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches.

Initially, it appeared that his path was clear when he opted to leave his childhood club for Aston Villa in January, with the Birmingham club having the option to make his loan permanent for £40 million.

The English forward has had a successful period under Unai Emery, netting four goals and providing six assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. His impressive performance has led to his recall to the England national team, while long-time suitors Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest.

Rashford wants Villa stay

The Carrington graduate was rumored to be considering a move to Camp Nou, but the Catalan powerhouses avoided him in January.

Many worry that if Villa doesn’t make it to the Champions League the next season, Rashford will want to move elsewhere, either to Barcelona or the Champions League finalists. There is no doubt that United does not want him to return.

The Villans might have little trouble activating the option, but Rashford’s enormous £300,000 weekly salary (per capology) would be too much for the Villa Park club to handle.

But Express Sport have now revealed that the England international wants to steer clear of a fresh start abroad in favour of staying with Villa, where he has built up a good rapport with Emery.

“Marcus Rashford would rather stay at Aston Villa than move abroad this summer. The 27-year-old joined on loan from Manchester United in February and has relished his return to first-team action after being frozen out by Ruben Amorim.

“Villa have a £40 million option to make the move permanent, although their transfer plans could hinge on which European competition they qualify for.

CL qualification key

“Rashford had looked favourably upon a prospective move to Barcelona in the winter, but Express Sport understands that a successful spell working with manager Unai Emery – under whom he has scored four goals and registered five assists – has swayed him towards staying at Villa Park.

“Rashford will have a say on his next move but whether or not he makes a permanent switch to the West Midlands is not entirely down to him. Villa may yet try to negotiate their £40m option down, but the major sticking point is his whopping £350,000-a-week wage.”

Aston Villa remains in contention for Champions League qualification, currently positioned sixth and trailing Chelsea only on goal difference. Securing a spot in Europe’s top competition would significantly enhance their prospects.

They may attempt to negotiate a lower price for the 27-year-old, but it is uncertain if INEOS will consent to such terms. Consequently, The Peoples Person has reported that they are actively exploring alternative options should negotiations falter.
