Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee leaves the door open for a possible return from injury ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham.
The initial campaign of the Dutchman at Old Trafford reportedly concluded unexpectedly due to an injury sustained last month. The 23-year-old had begun to win the support of the Red Army following a challenging start to the season and a disappointing incident against Newcastle United.
A season of highs & lows for Joshua Zirkzee
Since his £36 million transfer from Bologna last summer, Zirkzee has only netted seven goals. However, his impressive skills and diligent work ethic have secured him a consistent place in Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven, earning him the admiration of fans at OT. Unfortunately for the Dutch player, a thigh injury has sidelined him in recent weeks, and his manager has stated that his season is effectively concluded.
Nevertheless, Zirkzee has now indicated that a quick return to the field may be possible, although it is still challenging.
Zirkzee doesn’t rule out Europa League final return
The forward disclosed this information following a call from his former Bayern Munich colleague, Alphonso Davies, during a live Twitch session.
Zirkzee reportedly informed the Canadian left-back that he is making every effort to return in time for the Europa League final, a challenging yet feasible endeavor.
Consequently, Amorim’s initial evaluation appears to be accurate; however, it remains uncertain whether the Netherlands international can surprise fans with a call-up for the significant match.
Conversely, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, and Diogo Dalot are considerably more likely to recover in time for United’s most crucial game of the 2024/25 season. The Red Devils are set to face their domestic rivals, Spurs, in the tournament final scheduled for May 21 in Bilbao.
