After defeating Athletic Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate, Manchester United has secured a spot in the Europa League final.
Marcus Rashford, a Manchester United loanee, has expressed his support for Alejandro Garnacho following his parent club’s qualification for the Europa League final.
After defeating Athletic Club 3-0 in the first leg, United came into the match as the overwhelming favorites to advance to the Europa League final. However, with 70 minutes remaining, nerves won out and the final score was lowered to 3-1.
But the game was altered by Mason Mount’s arrival. Ruben Amorim’s team did not look back after he equalized in the 72nd minute that evening.
Casemiro flicked in from a free-kick to turn the tables on the night before Rasmus Hojlund tapped home to make it 6-1 on aggregate. Mount would add gloss to the scoreline as he scored just inside the Bilbao half to seal a brilliant night for United.
Unsurprisingly, several United players took to social media to celebrate the victory including Garnacho who shared pictures of himself at Old Trafford with the caption: “MAY 21,” a reference to the date of the Europa League final. Among those quick to like the post was Rashford in a clear show of support to the youngster and also his boyhood club.
Rashford’s current relationship with United could not be more strained as he was left with the ultimatum to leave United or not play again in January after a fallout with Amorim. The winger would join Aston Villa on loan where he did manage to partially rediscover his form.
