Marcus Rashford has reacted after Manchester United beat Athletic Club to reach the Europa League final.
Following six appearances for United in the Europa League this season, Rashford left in January to join Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season. Since then, the 27-year-old has netted four goals and provided six assists in 17 matches for Unai Emery’s team.
On Thursday night, United secured their spot in the Europa League final by defeating Athletic Club 4-1 at Old Trafford, achieving an aggregate victory of 7-1. Looking forward, Ruben Amorim’s squad will face fellow Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur in the final after the North London club eliminated Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
During the match at Old Trafford, winger Amad Diallo continued his recovery towards full fitness, being substituted in the 62nd minute for Alejandro Garnacho. Diallo, along with fellow substitute Mason Mount, positively influenced the match, aiding United’s progression to the final.
After the game, Diallo posted a picture from the match on Instagram, with a caption that said: “See you in Bilbao.”
In the comments section, it was spotted that Rashford left a one-word reply, which simply read: “Baller,” with a fire emoji.
Speaking after the match, goalscorer Mount said: “Obviously, since I’ve been here, I’ve had the injuries, the setbacks, but I always stay positive and I knew something good was going to come, and I carried on going.
“[I] just tried to come on and affect the game. It was a tight game when I come on, along with the other subs, so [I was] just trying to come on and calm the game down and have an impact.”
He added: “The crowd’s been unbelievable. They’ve stuck with us.
“For me personally, obviously my first goals here, at Old Trafford, so a special night. One I’ve been waiting for a long time. A special moment for us tonight, and we want to finish strong now.”
United are back in Premier League action this weekend when they take on West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
