Manchester United make ‘major progress’ to complete massive double deal as Arsenal scout £67m star

It is once again time to review some of the most significant new transfer rumors in the Premier League that have emerged in the media over the past 24 hours. We begin today’s update at Old Trafford, where Manchester United appears to be progressing towards a substantial double deal.

Reports from Caught Offside suggest that the Red Devils are ‘making significant strides’ in their pursuit of both Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, positioning themselves as ‘clear favorites’ to secure both signings despite interest from other clubs.

Delap, in particular, has numerous admirers, but his ‘current preference’ is to join United, notwithstanding potential competition from Chelsea. Earlier this week, Nottingham Forest was also reported to be interested.

Additionally, the same source indicates that Inter Milan is preparing to initiate a loan offer for the underperforming summer acquisition Joshua Zirkzee, including an option to purchase. It remains uncertain whether United will accept such an offer.

The 3AM Verdict: There’s a real lack of financial details here, which you’d expect if we were really all that close to deals happening, but there’s nothing inherently hard to believe beyond the question of whether United would sign three forwards – a move for Matheus Cunha still looks extremely probable. His and Delap’s release clauses alone would account for over £90m of spending.

Arsenal send scouts to watch £67m rising star

Arsenal has reportedly dispatched their chief scout to evaluate Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande, according to GiveMeSport, which references the Portuguese newspaper Record as its source.
The 21-year-old center-back has a release clause of €80 million (£67 million) in his contract with the Portuguese champions; however, the Gunners are optimistic about acquiring the Ivorian international for a lower fee.
Although Diomande is not their primary target—Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is preferred—he is being considered as an alternative due to interest from several other clubs in the young Spaniard. It is noteworthy that Arsenal’s interest in Diomande has been reported since 2023.

The 3AM Verdict: We keep being mildly surprised by the number of stories suggesting that Arsenal are looking to spend big on a centre-back, but they crop up often enough that we can’t dismiss them. Diomande is probably a long shot at this point, and this feels more like due diligence that a statement of definite interest to us.

Liverpool striker deal at ‘advanced stage’

In a noteworthy development for Liverpool supporters, Sport Witness has reported on Italian sources indicating that discussions regarding Federico Chiesa’s future are currently at a highly advanced stage.

It appears that Napoli is actively pursuing the often-injured forward, with Antonio Conte’s team intensifying efforts to finalize a deal this summer, having already submitted an offer.

The proposed arrangement would involve a loan with an option to purchase, although the specific financial details remain undisclosed; however, Liverpool is inclined to secure an obligation to buy.

Chiesa reportedly expresses enthusiasm about the prospect of returning to his home country, and it seems that salary considerations are unlikely to hinder the negotiations.
