Manchester United Add Moise Kean to Four-Man Striker Shortlist After ‘Real Metamorphosis’ at Fiorentina

Manchester United have stepped up their search for a prolific striker ahead of the summer transfer window and have now added Fiorentina forward Moise Kean to their growing shortlist of targets, according to Foot Mercato.

Kean, once seen as a promising talent at Juventus and Everton, has enjoyed a stunning resurgence this season in Serie A. His performances for Fiorentina have not only reignited his career but have also put him firmly back in the spotlight of Europe’s elite clubs — with United now reportedly considering a move.

Kean’s “Real Metamorphosis” at Fiorentina

Described as undergoing a “real metamorphosis” in Florence, Kean has evolved from an inconsistent forward into a reliable and mature attacking force. He has netted 17 goals in 30 Serie A appearances this season, along with six more goals in the Coppa Italia and European competitions, bringing his tally to 24 goals in all competitions — his best-ever return in a single season.

The 24-year-old has also scored two goals for Italy at the international level this campaign, cementing his reputation as one of the most in-form strikers in Europe right now.

Kean’s goal-scoring exploits have put him in elite company, matching club legends like Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino for goal contributions in their debut seasons at Fiorentina. He currently sits second in the Serie A scoring charts, just behind Inter’s Lautaro Martínez.

Manchester United’s Attacking Struggles Spark Search

United’s interest comes amid a season of attacking struggles under new boss Ruben Amorim, with the Red Devils scoring just 42 goals in 35 league games — a dismal return for a club with their ambitions.

Both Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to provide consistent firepower, managing just seven Premier League goals between them. With Anthony Martial set to leave at the end of his contract and Marcus Rashford facing an uncertain future, the need for a reliable striker has never been more urgent at Old Trafford.

Kean is now one of four forwards being monitored by Manchester United, with Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, and Viktor Gyökeres also believed to be on their radar.

Why Kean Appeals to Amorim

What makes Kean an attractive option for Amorim is his versatility, pressing ability, and improved discipline in and around the penalty area. At Fiorentina, he has become more clinical, frequently playing as a lone striker or part of a two-man attack — systems that align with Amorim’s tactical preferences, including his favoured 3-4-3 or 4-2-3-1 formations.

Kean is also physically suited to the Premier League, having previously played in England with Everton and PSG. Despite not settling fully during his time in Merseyside, his return to form in Italy has demonstrated his resilience and growth as a player.

Fiorentina’s Stance and Market Value

Fiorentina are reportedly open to selling Kean if they receive a suitable offer. His current contract runs until 2027, but the club is aware of growing interest across Europe. It’s believed they would demand a fee in the region of £35–40 million, which may be seen as a bargain considering his form and age.

However, United face competition from Serie A rivals and clubs in La Liga, making early negotiations crucial if they wish to secure his services before the transfer window heats up.

What Next for United?

Manchester United are expected to hold internal meetings in the coming weeks to finalise their striker shortlist. With financial constraints also playing a role, especially if the club misses out on Champions League football, Kean’s relatively affordable price tag could give him the edge over higher-priced targets like Osimhen.

For now, Kean remains firmly on United’s radar, and if his transformation continues, he could soon be leading the line at Old Trafford next season.
