Reports from Italy suggest that Manchester United may provide Douglas Luiz an escape from his difficult situation at Juventus during the summer transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder has experienced a challenging first year at the club since transferring from Aston Villa last summer.
With Christian Eriksen expected to depart in the upcoming transfer market and uncertainties surrounding the futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, United must explore potential targets. Luiz emerges as a viable option to strengthen their midfield, given his impressive performances in the Premier League at Villa Park in recent years.
Report: Man Utd ‘Remain in Background’ for Douglas Luiz
According to a report from the Italian publication TuttoSport, as relayed by SportWitness, several English players have been monitoring Luiz’s situation, despite his challenging debut season in Serie A; meanwhile, Manchester United is quietly considering a potential transfer.
Luiz has faced difficulties since his transfer from Aston Villa last summer, compounded by an injury that sidelined him for the latter half of the season. His performances prior to the winter break were not particularly impressive, and with only three starts in the top division, this may create an opportunity for a return to the Premier League, especially as United is also interested in another Brazilian player, Emerson, who plays for Atalanta in Serie A.
Igor Tudor appears to have excluded the former Manchester City player from his plans, as Luiz’s last appearance as a starter was at the beginning of the year against Torino, and he has only played 27 minutes in Serie A since March, significantly limiting his impact in Italy.
The ex-Villa player has expressed his longing for his time with Unai Emery’s team, where he was regarded as ‘world-class’; however, Manchester United could potentially provide him with a pathway out of Turin.
Luiz’s exceptional talent is undeniable, as evidenced by his impressive tally of 10 goals and an equal number of assists for Villa across all competitions last season. This includes nine goals in the Premier League and one in the Europa Conference League. With a total of 175 appearances in the competition, his experience and insight could prove invaluable for Ruben Amorim, who has faced significant challenges since his arrival at Old Trafford in November. Currently, the Red Devils find themselves in a disappointing 16th place in the Premier League, marking what is already their most challenging season in the tournament’s history.
