Manchester United have updated their price tag for Antony in a shock twist ahead of the summer transfer window reopening.
Manchester United intends to transfer Antony this summer after loaning him out for the current season. He has joined Real Betis on loan until the season concludes, following the January transfer window.
The Brazilian forward has excelled in Spain, contributing to Betis’s advancement to the Europa Conference League final. He scored an impressive goal during the semi-final against Fiorentina and seemed to take a jab at Manchester United in his heartfelt post-match interview.
With Manchester United also competing in a European final this season, Antony stands on the brink of making football history. Despite his commendable performances for Betis, the 25-year-old’s future seems to be away from Old Trafford. As reported by Football Insider, Manchester United is prepared to sell Antony for a fee between £20 million and £30 million.
It is understood that Manchester United recognizes the improbability of recovering the full £86 million they invested in acquiring him from Ajax in the summer of 2022. According to the report, Atletico Madrid has shown interest in signing Antony, while Betis plans to engage with Manchester United in hopes of retaining the on-loan star.
Betis president Angel Haro said: “His name was put on the table by the sporting director. It was a low-priced approach because Manchester United assumed almost all the salary.
“The player wanted to come to Betis. It was a pure loan, it was very cheap for Betis and there was no option to negotiate anything.
“Keeping Antony is very, very complicated. We will have a meeting with Manchester United to extend the loan for another year, to be able to share a percentage of the player… It’s about seeing the predisposition of the player and Manchester United.
“The first filter is put by Manchester United, and then the negotiation of the player would come, but that is a long way off.
“In addition, now the player is plugged in wanting to lift a title with Betis. When the time comes and the season is over, he will be able to do his part if this option opens up.”
