Man Utd to launch £51m bid to seal audacious swoop to sign world class star – report

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to spend big to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After departing AC Milan under contentious circumstances, the Italian goalkeeper opted to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. His tenure at Parc des Princes has been marked by inconsistency, despite securing several league titles and domestic cups.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old has played a crucial role in his team’s journey to the Champions League final, achieving five clean sheets and a 71% save rate across 14 matches in the prestigious tournament.

Reports from Fichajes indicate that Donnarumma’s future at PSG is in jeopardy as he approaches the final year of his contract this summer, with negotiations for an extension yet to advance.

Manchester United is reportedly keen to capitalize on his uncertain situation, preparing a £51 million offer to facilitate the transfer. Should PSG fail to finalize a new contract in the coming weeks, they may consider selling the Italian in the upcoming transfer window.

Donnarumma to Man Utd

Following David de Gea’s departure from the club without a transfer fee prior to the last season, Manchester United opted to acquire Andre Onana at a significant cost to replace the Spanish goalkeeper.

Despite this, Onana’s performance in the Premier League has been inconsistent, leading to skepticism among fans regarding his capabilities. To provide support for the Cameroonian, Altay Bayindir was brought in; however, he has yet to demonstrate the necessary qualities to become the primary goalkeeper for Manchester United. Consequently, pursuing a new goalkeeper may be a prudent choice.

Nonetheless, the club faces challenges in multiple areas of its squad, making it difficult to resolve all issues within a single transfer window. Thus, it would be more judicious to focus on enhancing other positions, such as the attack and midfield, during this summer transfer window.

It will be intriguing to observe whether Manchester United ultimately makes a definitive move to acquire Gianluigi Donnarumma’s services. In the meantime, after successfully overcoming Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-final, Manchester United is set to compete against West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
