Dejan Kulusevski might not make it to Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League final matchup with Manchester United.
Due to a knee injury, Kulusevski was substituted out of Sunday’s Tottenham 2-0 Premier League loss at Crystal Palace after just 19 minutes.
During the team’s Uefa media day on Monday, Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Kulusevski’s knee was “still sore” but that he “should be okay.” Sources claim that the Swede’s chances of making a full recovery in time for the final on Wednesday have since diminished.
The 25-year-old Kulusevski has ten goals for Spurs this season and scored in both their 4-3 loss to United in the League Cup quarterfinals in December and their Premier League victory at Old Trafford in September.
Spurs, who haven’t taken home a trophy since the League Cup in 2008, have already been disqualified from the Bilbao final due to the absence of midfielder Lucas Bergvall and playmaker James Maddison.
The Tottenham players will be wrapped “in cotton wool” before the Europa League final, according to Postecoglou. Forty-five minutes before United’s match at Chelsea, Tottenham’s last match before facing United is an away match against Aston Villa on Friday night.
Spurs trail United by one point and one spot in the Premier League, currently sitting in 17th position. This season has been the teams’ worst top flight campaigns since their relegation in the 1970s, with a total of 37 league losses.
United went down in 1974 and Spurs finished bottom in 1977. Both clubs came straight back up.
