Manchester United continues to pursue a summer transfer for Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting Lisbon star, as reported by journalist David Ornstein. The Red Devils have not dismissed the possibility of acquiring the 26-year-old forward after the current season, potentially reuniting him with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Ornstein notes that Amorim holds Gyokeres in high regard, having developed a strong appreciation for him during their time in Portugal, where the Swedish international has emerged as one of Europe’s top goal scorers over the last two seasons.
United’s prospects of securing the forward may be enhanced by their success in the upcoming Europa League final, which would guarantee their place in next season’s Champions League.
Man United Targeting Viktor Gyokeres
During an appearance on the Back Pages podcast, Ornstein disclosed that Arsenal is closely evaluating Gyokeres with only a few weeks left in the summer transfer window, noting that their new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is a strong admirer of the striker.
“There’s Viktor Gyokeres, who is going to be the target for many clubs.
“Arsenal are taking a serious look at him with their new sporting director, Andrea Berta, a big fan.
“[And] Manchester United with Ruben Amorim, who knows and loves him so much from their time together at Sporting Lisbon.”
Gyokeres has demonstrated outstanding performance for Sporting for the second consecutive year, netting 52 goals in 50 matches this season.
The 26-year-old, described as ‘game-changing,’ reached his 100th appearance for the Lisbon club last weekend, contributing an assist in the 1-1 draw against city rivals Benfica.
It is reported that Sporting may be receptive to Gyokeres’ transfer this summer, considering offers in the range of £55 million to £70 million.
His contract with the club extends until 2028, and Coventry City is expected to receive 10% of any profit Sporting generates above the initial fee paid for the forward.
