Manchester United will reach the Europa League final if they can avoid a major upset against Athletic Club.
Following a 3-0 victory against Athletic Club in Bilbao last week, Manchester United appears to be on the verge of reaching the Europa League final. Ruben Amorim emphasizes that the contest is far from concluded and that further efforts are required at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
United has been cautioned about the possibility of Athletic Club staging a comeback. Amorim plans to deploy a formidable United lineup against Athletic Club to prevent any sense of complacency in what is undoubtedly the most crucial match of the season for United.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford is expected to be tense, and a former United player suggests that Athletic Club may emerge victorious.
Ander Herrera predicts Athletic Club comeback vs Man United
Considering the disappointing season experienced by United, there may be concerns regarding Athletic Club’s potential to stage a comeback should Amorim’s team begin the match poorly on Thursday evening.
While Paul Scholes maintains that United will advance, former United midfielder Ander Herrera warns that the Red Devils might falter. In an interview with the Spanish publication Marca, Herrera stated: ‘If there is a team capable of achieving this at present, it is Athletic.’
“They’re a team that has something special and something unique about the knockout stages. They’re going to give them a hard time.
“I’m convinced that if Athletic manages to score a goal in the first 15 or 20 minutes, it’s possible.
“I have some hope. I’ve played for both clubs, and I also know that Old Trafford is special. But I think Athletic can take advantage of that moment of doubt that United sometimes have.”
Ernesto Valverde warned United ahead of the first leg, and he will set his team up to put pressure on the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
Ander Herrera wants Athletic Club to win Europa League
Ander Herrera was a Manchester United player for five years from 2014 to 2019, during which he quickly gained popularity among fans at Old Trafford. Under the management of Jose Mourinho, Herrera contributed to the team’s success by winning the Europa League in 2017, playing in the final match where United triumphed over Ajax.
However, Herrera also had two separate three-year tenures with Athletic Club, and he has made it clear that he supports the Spanish team. He expressed his desire for Athletic Club to defeat United in the semi-finals and ultimately win the tournament. While he has spoken very highly of United as a club, it appears that Herrera is favoring the underdog in the upcoming match on Thursday evening.
