Manchester United currently occupies the 15th position in the Premier League standings, with three remaining league matches against West Ham United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. Head coach Ruben Amorim is eager for the upcoming season to commence, as he aims to establish a strong start in his inaugural full season at the helm of the Red Devils.
Xavi Hernandez, a managerial candidate previously considered by the club before the appointment of the Portuguese coach, is monitoring the situation at Manchester United and believes that the players are committed to supporting their head coach despite the team’s domestic challenges.
Initially regarded as a temporary solution until the conclusion of the season following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal last October, Xavi was not receptive to this arrangement.
“I know Manchester United has a difficult year but I can see what Ruben Amorim is trying to do,” Xavi told The Athletic.
“He’s at the start of his project but I see one thing, that the players are fighting for him. And that is so important.
“They run for the team. Simeone – whether you like his style or not, his players will run and fight for him. He has a team. And if you have a team you have a chance.”
Many managers prefer to take the helm of a new team during the off-season to adequately prepare them for the upcoming season. However, Manchester United successfully persuaded Amorim to depart from Sporting CP, remaining persistent even as he suggested a potential move at the season’s conclusion.
The situation has not unfolded as either party had hoped, yet the Red Devils are committed to supporting their head coach this summer, anticipating positive results moving forward. Amorim has the opportunity to secure the Europa League title this season, and failing to achieve this could place him under significant pressure as he approaches the 2025-26 season.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement announcement on this day in 2013, Manchester United has faced challenges, and the Portuguese coach must swiftly demonstrate his capability to restore the club to its former glory in both English and European football before the board begins to consider alternative candidates.
