After another well-known commentator pushed Liverpool to recruit Inter Milan player Denzel Dumfries, Gary Neville advised Manchester United they might think about making an exciting move for him.
Prior to joining Inter in August 2021, Dumfries played for Sparta Rotterdam, Heerenveen, and PSV. Dumfries has become one of Europe’s top wing-backs throughout his tenure with the Serie A powerhouses.
This season, Inter could add to their collection of trophies, which includes one Scudetto, two Coppa Italias (Italian Cups), and three Supercoppa Italianas (Italian Super Cups) thanks to the right-sided ace.
In addition to competing against Napoli for the Serie A championship, the Nerazzurri defeated Barcelona to get to the Champions League final, where they will take on Paris Saint-Germain.
Dumfries has made 41 appearances for Inter this season, tallying 10 goals and six assists. With two goals and three assists during the two legs against Barca, he was an irresistible force down the right wing.
Neville, a veteran at Manchester United, described Dumfries as the ideal addition to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation on the Stick to Football podcast.
“Do you know what I kept thinking, I was thinking with United playing with their back five and the wing-backs, I was thinking about that right wing-back Dumfries, for United,” he said.
“I’d like to see him in the Premier League. Dumfries, how good was he? Unbelievable. He’s so good, he’s so good.”
On April 28, United was predicted to make a “mind-blowing” double transfer by snatching up Dumfries and another key Inter player.
However, if United decided to increase their interest in the 29-year-old, they might encounter competition.
Man Utd, Liverpool both admirers of Denzel Dumfries
With the Englishman set to sign a free move to Real Madrid, Dumfries has been considered as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.
And Alan Shearer has recommended that Liverpool take precisely that action.
“Although Denzel Dumfries plays in a completely different system with Inter Milan, there’s no doubt that when I’ve seen him in that system, he’s shone,” the former striker said recently.
“His energy has been incredible and the most impressive thing for me is how good he’s been in forward positions. He got a couple of goals, the assist in the [Champions League] semi-finals.
“Defensively is a different question, but certainly offensively he’s a very, very good player. Arne Slot will know him better than anyone being a fellow Dutchman.
“Signing for Liverpool would be an option, but he’s got the chance of winning the Champions League and he’s also got a chance of winning the league so he’s obviously in a very healthy position.”
