Five things learned as Manchester United lose 2-0 to West Ham

Manchester United’s terrible Premier League form continued with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford.

West Ham earned all three points from their trip to Manchester thanks to goals from Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek.

Now that Manchester United has lost seven straight Premier League games, Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that the team’s whole attention is on the Europa League and has been for a while.

However, despite controlling possession, United’s performance against West Ham was far from adequate, as they were unable to generate any opportunities.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s return to Old Trafford

Noussair Mazraoui replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was transferred to West Ham for £15 million as part of the Ineos clearout last summer.

Wan-Bissaka’s defensive skills are well known to United supporters, and he was able to silence Amad Diallo on his wing, which was annoying. He went on to contribute significantly to both goals, notably helping Jarrod Bowen in the second half.

Since joining the Hammers, Wan-Bissaka has “dominated” this season, and United may be sorry to have allowed the 27-year-old go, especially for such a low price.

Leny Yoro now a doubt for the final

Leny Yoro lost his foot just minutes into the second half.

For the final forty minutes, Harry Maguire took his position, and Yoro was seen heading directly down the Old Trafford tunnel.

Amorim needs the top players fit because the Europa League final is approaching. Yoro was “world class” against Athletic Club in the semifinal, so it would be devastating if he were to miss the Bilbao spectacular.

United may be missing two of their best center backs against Tottenham if Matthijs de Ligt is also unable to make it to the final.

Europa League hangover… again

Once more, United put on a fantastic show in Europe, but their Premier League performance was disappointing.

Despite Amorim’s explanation of United’s league struggles, the Red Devils have now lost seven straight league games.

Amorim would not want to finish the league season in that manner in advance of 2025–2026, regardless of whether United wins the Europa League.

Rasmus Hojlund injury scare

Rasmus Hojlund is the lone striker who is fit and eligible to play in the Europa League final, which is just ten days away.

Since an injury to the Dane would force Amorim to reconsider his strategy for the final, that explains why Old Trafford held its breath when Hojlund went down holding his shoulder in the first half.

Fortunately, Hojlund appeared to recover from his injuries despite another subpar performance against West Ham.

Man United break 18-year streak vs West Ham

Manchester United had not suffered a loss to West Ham at Old Trafford in eighteen years before to Sunday’s loss.

Carlos Tevez scored the game-winning goal for the Hammers at the close of the 2006–07 season, marking their final triumph at Old Trafford.

At the Theatre of Dreams, the Argentine striker would later try to join Sir Alex Ferguson.
