Fabrizio Romano names Man Utd star who is untouchable under Ruben Amorim as club prepare ‘crazy salary offer

Following a remarkable resurgence against Lyon in the quarter-finals, the Red Devils easily triumphed in their semi-final match, achieving a 7-1 aggregate victory over the Spanish team Athletic Club. Although the La Liga side will host the final later this month, they will not have the opportunity to compete for a European trophy in their own venue, as the Red Devils secured wins of 3-0 and 4-1 in the two legs.

Qualifying for the Champions League will enhance United’s revenue and strengthen their position in the transfer market. Currently, the Red Devils can only afford to bring in one or two new players without any sales or European competition.

Nevertheless, the club is resolute in retaining their top talents, including Bruno Fernandes, who has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League and Al-Hilal. Despite the offer of a ‘crazy salary’ to lure him to the Saudi Pro League, he is deemed ‘untouchable’ by manager Amorim.

Romano said: “Bruno Fernandes is the top target for Al-Hilal. That’s the reality. Al-Hilal made contact with people close to Bruno Fernandes. They tried two years ago, they tried one year ago and then Bruno extended his contract at United. Now Al-Hilal are still there and are prepared to offer crazy money to Bruno Fernandes – a crazy salary to make him a crucial player for their project at the club.

“They are prepared to give him a really important salary but the crucial position here is Manchester United, it is in their hands. For Manchester United financially, they know that Al-Hilal will be prepared to offer big transfer fee for Bruno Fernandes.

“But Man United know that for the coach, Ruben Amorim, Bruno Fernandes is absolutely untouchable and a crucial player. Amorim consider Fernandes crucial as a player, as a leader, on every single point of view and wants Bruno to continue in Manchester United.

“So what’s the point, when Man United position is very clear? Al-Hilal want to try and want to make contact again with people close to Bruno. Al-Hilal want to offer really important money. And then see what happens when they will make an approach also with Manchester United.”

Man United unlikely to sanction Bruno Fernandes exit

Despite a challenging season outside of the Europa League, Fernandes has consistently distinguished himself as a performer while his teammates have faced difficulties. He extended his contract last summer, and Amorim expressed his desire for Fernandes to continue at Old Trafford earlier this week.
United must address several positions this summer, and losing Fernandes would create a significant gap that would be costly to fill. He is the club’s leading scorer this season with 19 goals and has also provided 19 assists. Only three other players have reached double digits in goals, with the second-highest scorer, Alejandro Garnacho, trailing by eight goals at 11.
Garnacho ranks second in assists this season with 10, while Amad Diallo follows with nine, with no other player approaching Fernandes’ statistics. His contributions and leadership as captain underscore his importance to the team. The only scenario in which United might consider parting with him would be in response to an exorbitant offer, likely exceeding £100 million.
