Inter Milan is apparently prepared to table a loan-to-buy deal to sign a struggling Manchester United player, which may help create space at Old Trafford for new players like Matheus Cunha.
Man Utd working on Cunha deal as summer plans ramp up
Despite currently ranking 16th in the Premier League, below Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Red Devils have initiated their summer transfer plans. The Manchester United brand still possesses significant allure, attracting top talents to Old Trafford, with Cunha potentially being one of the players joining this summer.
The situation is facilitated by Cunha’s release clause of approximately £63 million in his contract with Wolves, prompting Manchester United to act swiftly to secure the Brazilian’s transfer.
Manager Ruben Amorim is acutely aware of the disappointing performance during the initial six months of his tenure and has expressed his embarrassment regarding Manchester United’s standing in the Premier League following their loss to West Ham United.
The former Sporting Club boss told reporters: “How a manager of Manchester United is supposed to feel in that position – embarrassed, and it’s hard to accept. I think everybody has to think seriously about a lot of things here. Everybody is thinking about the final. The final is not an issue in this moment in our club.”
The upgrades must start with Cunha, but they must not end there for Manchester United, who are set for an incredibly important summer full of incomings and perhaps several outgoings.
Inter Milan ready to strike Zirkzee deal
As Cunha appears to be joining the team, it seems that one forward may be departing from Old Trafford. Reports from Corriere Dello Sport indicate that Inter Milan is prepared to negotiate a loan-to-buy deal for Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United this summer.
The Italian club is even said to be willing to demonstrate their commitment by including an obligation to purchase in their proposal. Following a challenging start at Manchester United, Zirkzee may be poised to leave just a year after his arrival.
Although this decision may appear harsh from Amorim and INEOS, it is a necessary step if they aim to steer the club back towards success. Furthermore, if Zirkzee’s departure allows United to recover the £34 million initially invested in signing him last summer and facilitates Cunha’s arrival, it is a move that must be approved.
Premier League stats 24/25 (via FBref) | Matheus Cunha | Joshua Zirkzee |
---|---|---|
Minutes | 2,483 | 1,402 |
Goals | 15 | 3 |
Assists | 6 | 1 |
Expected Goals | 8 | 4.8 |
A player who earns £105,000-a-week on Manchester United’s wage bill, the numbers do not make for pretty reading for Zirkzee when compared to the impressive Cunha and that should force the Red Devils’ hand this summer.
