Antony breaks down in tears during emotional TV interview as he aims subtle dig at Man Utd

Manchester United winger Antony broke down in tears during a post-match interview on Thursday (May 8).

Antony, aged 25, transferred to Manchester United from Ajax in the summer of 2022 for a substantial fee of £85 million. However, his impact at Old Trafford was underwhelming, leading to a loan move to Real Betis in January.

Since his arrival at the Andalusian club, he has significantly improved, showcasing a series of remarkable performances with eight goals and five assists in 21 matches.

Recently, he played a crucial role in securing his team’s first-ever European final by scoring a spectacular free kick against Fiorentina, with the match ultimately concluding in extra time, resulting in a 4-3 aggregate victory and a Conference League final against Chelsea in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 28.

Reflecting on the challenging period he experienced at United, he appeared visibly emotional after the match.

“My family knows what we went through to be her – I have cried a lot with my mother, with my wife and with my siblings,” Antony said, who could not hold back tears.

“Because we went through very tough times. I am living a dream now.”

In a previous interview with DAZN in April, the Brazil international admitted that he had “found himself” at his new club.

“I don’t think it’s by chance that a club pays that amount [what United paid],” said Antony.

“If they pay that amount it’s because there’s talent and quality. I’m very grateful to United for everything; also to Erik for what we lived together—the titles and the learning experience. I went through difficult times at United but also very good moments; that’s why I’m grateful and believe it prepared me to be here enjoying today. I’m very happy here.”

He added: “I’m very happy. I found myself. I needed to find myself and be happy. My family needed to be happy too. Every day that passes confirms it was the best decision and as you said, I’m enjoying the city and the club every day.”
