Manchester United are fully focussed on improving their attack after a dismal campaign in front of goal this season.
Rasmus Hojlund, the team’s top striker, has really only scored four Premier League goals this season and three goals overall.
In addition to a striker, Hojlund has been complaining all season about Ruben Amorim’s desire for creative outlets who can provide the frontman with the game-winning ball.
Although there are several connections between Matheus Cunha and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Cunha appears to be the favorite to join the Red Devils in the summer.
Attacking reinforcements
However, according to Sky Sports, Amorim wants United to try to sign Antoine Semenyo instead of the Cameroonian, who is not particularly high on the team’s list.
Much of this will depend on United’s European campaign, and if they win the Europa League, there’s a fair likelihood that more upfront acquisitions would be anticipated.
“Man Utd is rumored to be interested in forwards like Liam Delap, Matheus Cunha, and either Antoine Semenyo or Bryan Mbeumo. If they can provide Champions League football the following season, they will become a more alluring destination.
“Semenyo is believed to be ahead of Mbeumo on the list of targets at United, but Liverpool and Newcastle are also keen on both, as are Spurs, who would also be a much more attractive draw with Champions League football if they can beat United in the Europa League final.”
Semenyo ahead of Mbeumo
Amorim is understandably excited by the Ghanaian’s ability to play wide, up top, and even as a wingback on either flank. This season, he has 11 goals and seven assists.
Amorim has witnessed firsthand how lethal he can be in front of goal as he has scored in each of Bournemouth’s encounters with United this season.
There have been rumors that the 25-year-old may be heading to the Saudi Pro League, and as his contract is set to expire in 2029, the Cherries are anticipated to seek over £70 million.
Due to financial constraints, a firm decision is anticipated following the Europa League final on May 21.
