Manchester United is hopeful about finalizing a transfer for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, contingent upon their success in the Europa League, as reported by journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Red Devils are competing with Premier League rivals Chelsea for the 21-year-old, and they believe that winning against Tottenham in the upcoming Europa League final would enhance their chances of acquiring Delap.
It is understood that Delap prefers a move to Old Trafford after the current season and may join Wolves star Matheus Cunha as one of the initial reinforcements for Ruben Amorim’s attacking lineup. The ‘exceptional’ 21-year-old has a £30 million release clause in his contract at Portman Road, which Manchester United is anticipated to activate should they choose to proceed with their pursuit.
Delap is reportedly awaiting the season’s conclusion before making a decision regarding his future, but he aims to clarify any uncertainties prior to his departure for the Under-21 European Championship in June. He has had a standout season at Ipswich under Kieran McKenna, netting 12 goals and providing two assists in 35 league matches.
The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising strikers in the nation and is expected to conclude his time at Portman Road following Ipswich’s relegation back to the Championship. Delap transferred to the Tractor Boys from Manchester City at the beginning of the season in a £20 million deal, with Pep Guardiola’s team entitled to a 20 percent sell-on fee from any future sale.
Additionally, City possesses a £40 million buy-back option for the Englishman but is not anticipated to exercise it due to increasing interest from their local rivals, Manchester United.
