Who is Ian Subiabre?
Born in Patagonia and developed in the legendary River Plate academy, Subiabre has quickly become one of the most exciting young attackers in the AFA Liga Profesional.
Known for his versatility, the left-footed teenager primarily operates as a right winger but is equally comfortable on the left or playing as a second striker. His style has already drawn comparisons to a young Julián Álvarez due to his relentless work rate and tactical intelligence.
The 2026 Season So Far:
Matches Played: 11
Goal Contributions: 1 Goal, 2 Assists
Key Traits: Elite dribbling, vision for through balls, and high positional flexibility.
Recent Form: He was a standout performer for Argentina at the U-20 World Cup in Chile, featuring in all seven matches on their road to the final.
The “100 Million” Hurdle
If Manchester United want to bring Subiabre to the Premier League, it won’t be cheap. Following a contract dispute earlier this year, River Plate successfully tied the youngster down to a new deal running until December 2028.
Crucially, the new contract includes a massive $100 million (£79m) release clause. While River might be open to a structured deal in the region of €15m–€20m plus sell-on percentages, the high release clause gives them total control over the negotiations.
The Battle for His Signature
United aren’t the only ones at the table. The race for Subiabre is turning into a “Who’s Who” of European football:
Manchester City: Have tracked him for years and nearly signed him during the Claudio Echeverri deal.
Inter Milan: Reports suggest they have already opened formal talks to “steal a march” on the Premier League clubs.
Chelsea: Have held discussions with his representatives under their BlueCo recruitment strategy.
Borussia Dortmund: Known for poaching South American gems, the German giants are reportedly preparing a concrete offer for the summer window.
