Manchester United to complain to referees group with officials ‘furious’ at Bournemouth incident

Manchester United are to make a formal complaint to PGMOL today after being left angry at the decision not to give a penalty when they felt Amad was fouled against Bournemouth.

United believe the winger was clearly wrestled to the ground by Adrien Truffer in the penalty area, soon after they had been awarded a penalty for a similar incident when Alex Jimenez pulled the shirt of Matheus Cunha.

To rub salt into the wounds, Bournemouth went up the other end and equalised through Ryan Christie, and then got a penalty later in the game for a foul by Harry Maguire on Evanilson that looked almost identical to the incident involving Amad and Truffert, which Stuart Attwell waved away. Maguire was subsequently sent off.

The Manchester Evening News has been told that United officials were “furious” at what they considered another costly VAR blunder and cannot understand why similar penalty incidents within the same game were treated differently.

Attwell’s decision to dismiss Maguire also means United will now be without the 33-year-old centre-back for their game against Leeds.
