‘What a club’… Rio Ferdinand believes outgoing Man Utd star will be ‘licking his lips’ at transfer move

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his view on one of the club’s outgoing players.

The days of Manchester United supporters boasting that “the only way after leaving United is down” are long gone.

These days, it is more typical for players who have occasionally struggled at Old Trafford to succeed elsewhere.

A portion of this can be attributed to Manchester United’s crippling expectations, which are simply too much for the players and managers to cope with.

Scott McTominay, who went from playing for United to winning Serie A with Napoli and even receiving a nomination for the Ballon d’Or, is one of the greatest success stories.

Now that a loan agreement is being negotiated, Rasmus Hojlund looks certain to join him at Napoli.

Rio Ferdinand backs Rasmus Hojlund for Napoli move

After Manchester United paid £66 million for Benjamin Sesko, Rasmus Hojlund was declared surplus to requirements.

Hojlund was a target for AC Milan, but Rio Ferdinand thinks Napoli is the best fit for him, and they are expected to win the race.

“What a club to go to,” Ferdinand wrote on his YouTube account. The Italian champs, Rasmus Hojlund must be sitting there licking his lips. De Bruyne is feeding me, and Scott McTominay is joining the box and wreaking havoc; he’s the dangerman who might give me more room. A couple additional weapons are present.

“What a situation for Lukaku, but I’ll be vying for his position when he returns.”

It’s similar to Marcus Rashford leaving Manchester United, where things aren’t going well, to a place where everyone is feeling upbeat. If Rasmus Hojlund can pull it off, it’s a fantastic move. Barcelona is the Spanish champion, and Napoli is the Italian champion.

Ferdinand added that he would benefit greatly from working with Antonio Conte, the manager of Napoli.

“Under a manager who has a clear identity and clear way of playing that he specifically wants players to play, that will do Rasmus Hojlund the world of good,” the Premier League legend stated.

Manchester United must be wary with Rasmus Hojlund exit

When Rasmus Hojlund was just 20, Manchester United signed him and gave him a big assignment: to lead the team’s line.

As was to be expected, Hojlund finally gave way under the strain, and a new beginning in a different setting would be beneficial.

However, Manchester United can and should set the conditions because Napoli is hesitant to pay for a long-term contract right now.

This should allow United to maintain some control over the Dane’s future, with the possibility of bringing him back for a new beginning if he has a successful loan and scores more than 20 goals.

As Ferdinand points out, the conditions are there in Napoli for Hojlund to succeed, but that does not need to be the end for him at Manchester United.
