In addition to running out of time to get rid of more deadwood, Manchester United has less than a week to complete another transfer that will strengthen Ruben Amorim’s team.
United has a short window of time to finalize any remaining deals for the new midfield player Amorim is hankering after as the transfer market closes on September 1.
United needs additional strength in the center of the park after signing three attackers this transfer window. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro’s pairing hasn’t pleased supporters thus far this season.
The need for reinforcements at Old Trafford has increased as a result of their inability to win either of their first two Premier League games, but club executives are also aware that they must make exits in order to balance the books.
As deadline day approaches, Mirror Football has examined the most significant Manchester United transfer rumors.
Amorim’s three-man midfield wishlist
After benching Manuel Ugarte and the highly regarded young player Kobbie Mainoo for the season’s opening games, it is evident that Amorim is unhappy with his current midfield choices.
Many interpreted that as a message to the United board that his alternatives are inadequate and that the team is actively seeking to add another top player who can give United’s midfield stability.
Casemiro and Ugarte are United’s current defensive midfield alternatives; Amorim does not consider Mainoo to be a true No. 6, but neither player is thought to be competent enough for a consistent starting position.
According to the Athletic, the team has now identified three midfield targets for Amorim that might strengthen the team in central areas. These are Morten Hjulmand of Sporting Lisbon, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, and Carlos Baleba of Brighton.
Although the club might be open to altering their valuation closer to the deadline, United had already been in negotiations with Baleba earlier in the window and seemed to abandon him after the Seagulls requested £120 million.
It further states that they are not yet interested in Wharton and Hjulmand, who performed at Lisbon under Amorim.
Mainoo given transfer setback
After been cruelly taken out of Amorim’s plans, Mainoo’s time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end as a result of United’s search for a new midfield player.
When he first joined the team, the 20-year-old was the club’s bright spot, but given the current midfield situation, his chances of getting into Amorim’s squad appear slim.
Mainoo is reportedly weighing his options because he would be further pushed down the hierarchy if they signed another midfield player.
Due to Amorim’s lack of regard for Mainoo as a No. 6, he is listed as Bruno Fernandes’ rival rather than Casemiro’s, which has given Manuel Ugarte opportunities from the bench.
Although Mainoo would be amenable to leaving United, the Athletic has revealed that he currently has few possibilities.
Mainoo’s ambitions of playing frequently before England’s 2026 World Cup next year have been severely damaged as he has failed to get an official approach from any club with just one week remaining in the transfer window.
United set for big loss on Hojlund
Rasmus Hojlund, an out-of-favor striker who is reportedly close to joining Napoli, is one player who appears certain to depart Old Trafford in the near future.
According to a number of publications, Napoli is certain that the deal would be completed before the deadline, with the player joining on loan before a £38 million required buyout clause.
Hojlund’s terrible tenure at United, which has resulted in just 14 Premier League goals in two seasons, will then come to an end when he is offered a deal through 2030.
But that final sale would be a significant loss compared to the £72 million United paid for him in 2023 after acquiring him from Atalanta.
Hojlund has scored 26 goals overall in all competitions, but his lack of clinical edge and erratic performance have drawn harsh criticism.
He will be going back to Serie A, where he had a successful 2022–2023 season with Atalanta.
When United paid almost £74 million for new striker Benjamin Sesko, his future appeared dismal and he was further eliminated from the Old Trafford picture.
