Man Utd’s eye-watering Bruno Fernandes price tag as captain changes exit stance

According to speculations, Manchester United may be persuaded to sell captain Bruno Fernandes if they receive a proposal over £100 million. Earlier this summer, Fernandes turned down the opportunity to sign with Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League.

Fernandes was offered £700,000 a week by Al-Hilal, which would have given him about £200 million over the course of a three-year contract. In spite of this, Fernandes has been the target of a late summer approach from another Saudi Pro League team.

According to a recent Daily Mail article, Al-Ittihad had fruitful discussions with Fernandes’ representatives over a possible transfer, and a bid exceeding £100 million might convince United to cash in.

According to the source, Fernandes has no plans to leave this summer since he wants to avoid any disruptions before the 2026 World Cup, but if Al-Ittihad makes him an offer that is even more than Al-Hilal’s, then things might change.

Al-Ittihad is trying to make space in their roster for a new addition as the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window ends on September 10. Former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has been linked to a move away.

Fernandes has said in the past that if United wanted to sell him, he would be open to leaving Old Trafford. “I haven’t fulfilled my dreams here yet,” Fernandes remarked in an interview with Sky Sports regarding his decision to turn down Al-Hilal earlier this month.

“I think I can still give something to the club. I think I’m still in a position where I’m helpful so the thing for me is that I will be here until the club decides that ‘Bruno, it’s time to go’.

“Obviously, I know it was tough on the club to decide that because it was a big amount of money that the club hasn’t got probably since Cristiano [Ronaldo] left, he was the last one where they got so much money for a player.

“I know for the club it was tough to decide. Because on one side I’m the club captain, I’m important for them, even if at times I’ve not been great, I’ve been performing and everything. I know that in the public eye it will be bad if things go wrong.

“But it would be very good if things go well – if they sell me and they get more players and whatever. But in my mind I’ve always said that this is the place I want to be.

“The dream of coming and playing in the Premier League, because for me it is the biggest league in the world and I want to fulfil my dreams of staying here and winning more things with the club. Obviously I know people will have different opinions – he’s 30 years old, he’s getting old…”
