Manchester United are planning for the summer transfer window as they expect to lose Marcus Rashford permanently, and they should be going all out to ensure they get the best replacement possible.
The club opted to move Rashford out of the club in January 2025, sending him on loan to Aston Villa following a bust-up with Ruben Amorim, while INEOS saw it as an opportunity to get his huge wages off the books too.
Villa couldn’t make the deal permanent, and the England star instead joined Barcelona last summer on an initial loan with an option to stay for just β¬30m (Β£25.8m), which looks highly likely to be triggered following an impressive campaign at the Camp Nou.
Man Utd Need a Starting Left Winger
United made the decision to part with their wingers last summer as Amorim played a system that didn’t need them. But following his sacking in January, and a return to a back-four, the team are now desperate to find some more wide options to strengthen their attack.
Patrick Dorgu, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have all played on the left wing in recent weeks since Michael Carrick’s arrival, but the interim boss admitted that he feels it’s an area that the club should look to bolster in the summer.
βIt’s something to look at [signing a left-winger]. I think Matheus [Cunha] can play in that position. Amad can do it too. We have very good options all over the front line.β
However, United can’t replace a player of Rashford’s quality with just anyone, and with the club pushing to return to the Champions League next year, they need to go all out to bring in someone with an X-factor and match-winning qualities.
Barcola is the Perfect Answer
Reports in Spain have suggested that United have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements for the 28-year-old, and one of those names mentioned is Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola.
The France international, who is considered to be ‘one of the best wingers in the world’, has seen his future in Paris come into question as he competes for a starting place alongside the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia under Luis Enrique.
A new contract has seemingly been stalled as they struggle to agree terms, and that has opened the door for some top clubs to make their move.
United will have a big advantage in the race if they are able to secure Champions League football, as they can offer him a guaranteed starting spot in his preferred left-wing role, and he still fits the bill for what INEOS want with their signings.
The club must go all-out to secure the signing to ensure they can progress to the next level, and Barcola would be absolutely perfect.
