Manchester United’s unwanted striker Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly one step away from sealing his transfer to Napoli.
The MUFC management was eager to upgrade the Dane after a dismal campaign on all fronts, and Benjamin Sesko turned out to be the solution. In the first two rounds of the Premier League season, Hojlund was left out of the matchday squad by Ruben Amorim, despite the fact that the Slovenian is still getting used to his new surroundings in Carrington.
In order to avoid spending his season at Old Trafford as an afterthought, the former Atalanta star must now finalize his departure in the last days of the summer transfer window.
Man United & Napoli reach €45m agreement on Rasmus Hojlund
Napoli has taken the lead in the competition for Hojlund in recent days. The 22-year-old was chosen by the Italian champions as the ideal candidate to take Romelu Lukaku’s place, who will be sidelined for several months.
La Gazzetta dello Sport, the most well-known sports newspaper in Italy, reported Tuesday morning that Man Utd and Napoli had already reached an agreement, with the player pushing for the transfer.
According to the pink tabloid, Hojlund will sign a €5 million loan deal with the Partnepei, with a €40 million buyout option. In addition to the side qualifying for the Champions League the next season, this provision will become an obligation to purchase under specific terms pertaining to goals and appearances.
Napoli & Hojlund negotiating personal terms
The attacker will have Scott McTominay, a former Manchester United teammate, as an ally in Naples. The Scotland international has allegedly been working as a “secret agent” in the Hojlund scandal, and the two are still close friends.
Although the operation has advanced, GdS claims that representatives from Napoli and Hojlund still need to work out a few specifics, such as addressing the player’s image rights issue, before coming to a final agreement.
In the past, a number of moves have been thwarted by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis’s infamous insistence on buying the image rights of every player he has under contract. Therefore, it is unclear if the two sides will be able to resolve this conflict.
