According to a rumor, Manchester United wants to finalize a deal to re-sign English talent Angel Gomes before Tottenham Hotspur can sign him.
Before making his senior debut in May 2017, Gomes progressed through the ranks at Manchester United. Before departing on a free transfer in August 2020, he went on to play ten games for United’s first team.
The midfielder struggled to make an impression on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, playing just six games in the 2019–20 season.
Throughout that season, United had multiple rounds of negotiations with Gomes and his agency but were unable to come to an agreement.
Gomes was eventually signed by Lille and has since gained a great name in France. He earned his first four caps between September and November of last year after forcing his way into the England national team lineup thanks to his outstanding play over the previous 18 months.
Lille made a great financial decision by signing Gomes for nothing, but they are now going to lose him for nothing as well.
The 24-year-old is considering a return to the Premier League after his current contract has expired. Tottenham is “leading the race” for his services, according to CaughtOffside, although that could change in the upcoming weeks.
In an attempt to get back together with the playmaker, United is prepared to “hijack” Spurs’ approach and send Gomes a contract offer.
In addition to Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille, Everton and Crystal Palace are the other Premier League teams interested in Gomes.
United must pay Gomes a competitive salary and guarantee him frequent starts under Ruben Amorim in order to entice him back to Old Trafford. Gomes is putting his own growth first and doesn’t want to be benched as much as he was during his first stint at United.
Angel Gomes has already rejected West Ham
Given that Gomes impressed during England’s 3-1 victory over Finland in October and was hailed as a “brilliant” player by both Ian Wright and Roy Keane, it is not surprising that at least seven clubs are vying for his services.
Despite claims to the contrary, sources told TEAMtalk in March that Gomes is still a goal for United. However, we know that the creative star is willing to examine other teams as well, so INEOS must act wisely to guarantee Gomes rejoins United.
Gomes has reportedly turned down a contract offer from West Ham United because of their difficulties this season.
Of course, Manchester United has also had a terrible Premier League season, but defeating Spurs in the Europa League final would greatly help them.
Gomes might decide between Manchester United and Tottenham after the Europa League final, which would ensure his spot in the Champions League the following season.
As previously disclosed, Daniel Levy is spearheading Spurs’ pursuit of the player.
United exit timeline; Spurs deal shut down
Meanwhile, United are prepared to ‘accelerate’ one sale before the end of May, as per a report.
Elsewhere, Spurs have been backed to offload one of their key stars in a shock summer deal.
“They’re not going to sell him,” one pundit has responded, however.
