Man United summer signing suffers huge injury setback ahead of competitive debut for new club

Manchester United youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik has suffered a huge injury setback just weeks after he left the club on loan in the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old joined United last month after his Le Havre contract had expired and was immediately sent on loan to Ineos-owned Swiss Super League club Lausanne Sports. Kana-Biyik featured for his loan side during their pre-season schedule but was ruled out of their Conference League second qualifying round against North Macedonian side FK Vardar.

Kana-Biyik was initially ruled out for a couple of weeks, but it has now been revealed he is expected to be sidelined for the next eight weeks after he suffered a ‘severe knee sprain’ in training. It means the teenage striker might not be available until late September, by which time he will have missed the first two months of the season.

Lausanne Sports began the Swiss Super League campaign with a 3-2 victory over Winterthur and defeated FK Vardar 6-2 on aggregate to set up a third qualifying round tie with Astana.

The Swiss club confirmed the injury setback in a club statement: “FC Lausanne-Sport’s young striker, Enzo Kana Biyik, aged just 18, will be sidelined for an estimated eight weeks due to a severe knee sprain.

“The number 22 had made a good start in the blue and white jersey, particularly during the warm-up matches where he had demonstrated some of his potential. This injury interrupts his momentum after he had already distinguished himself with his encouraging performances. FC Lausanne-Sport wishes Enzo a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back on the pitch soon.”

Kana-Biyik made 16 appearances for Le Havre U19s last season, where he scored nine goals and registered one assist. He was twice named on the bench for the first team but has yet to make his competitive debut for a professional club. He has also made seven appearances for France at U18 level

Although he officially joined United as a free agent, they have paid a compensation fee for the striker, believed to be in the region of £200,000.
