Ruben Amorim has been quick to turn Man Utd’s focus to the next game, with the crown jewel of the defence in the club’s academy a beneficiary of first-team training.
Manchester United are on a three-game winning streak, so the vibes are immaculate at Carrington training ground right now.
It was always expected that Ruben Amorim would start using the youth a lot more once the team started winning, so there was no “saviour syndrome” for young debutants.
It looks like he might be true to his word, as he called up the crown jewel of defence in Man Utd’s academy to first-team training ahead of the next game, along with three other youngsters.
Jayden Ngwashi leads quartet of youngsters in Man Utd training
Jayden Ngwashi is a 17-year-old centre-back who has long been tipped as one of the academy’s best when it comes to the defensive ranks.
He is to defence what JJ Gabriel is to the attack, so highly rated has he been since Man Utd secured his future soon after Gabriel.
Ngwashi has been dubbed the “Next Marc Guehi”, due to the combination of size and skill, and United beat off competition from European elites to secure his future.
Ngwashi has already been called up to Man Utd training before, so his recall hints at the youngster impressing Amorim the first time around.
Amorim is clearly keen to monitor Ngwashi’s growth up close, like he has with Gabriel, so expect more first-team training appearances for the crown jewel in defence of Man Utd’s academy.
Joined by him in training were Victor Musa, Sam Mather, and Finley McAllister as Amorim tried to make up the numbers in training, since players who played against Brighton were doing recovery instead.
Ngwashi and the quartet’s first-team prospects
While Ngwashi is an exciting prospect who can feasibly expect to make a first-team appearance in the next two years at the very least, the same, unfortunately, can’t be said for the other three.
Sam Mather was close to leaving Man Utd in the summer, and then again, despite the window closing, because the UAE’s window was open.
Expect him to leave in the January window if a suitable sporting project arrives.
Victor Musa hasn’t fared well with the step up to U21s, so despite some games of remarkable goalscoring for the U18s, his first-team prospects at Old Trafford are slim at best.
Finley McAllister used to be extremely highly rated, but injuries robbed him of all momentum. Even though he’s stayed fit now, he has been jumped in the pecking order by the likes of Sekou Kone, Jack and Tyler Fletcher, among others.
With Christian Orozco and potentially Mouhamed Dabo arriving soon, McAllister’s best path to senior football might be away from United.
That shouldn’t take the shine away from the experience of working alongside Man Utd’s crop of senior internationals, though. Ngwashi, in particular, should be eager to impress and solidify his first-team credentials for the future.
