Manchester United the most likelty destination for 22-year-old striker this summer

Ipswich Town star Liam Delap is likely to move to Manchester United this summer

Manchester United urgently requires a dependable centre-forward for the upcoming summer, as their inability to convert chances into goals has become a significant concern throughout the season. Despite some impressive displays in the Europa League, the Red Devils have faced challenges in maintaining consistency in the Premier League.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not met expectations, and injuries have further complicated the attacking lineup. Under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, the club is in search of a forward who can adapt to his tactical style, possessing the necessary work ethic, movement, and finishing skills to excel in a more organized system.

However, financial limitations have made affordability as important as talent in their quest for a new striker. According to Ben Jacobs on The Done Deal Show, as reported by TBR Football, Liam Delap has become the preferred target for United. Although there have been speculations linking them to Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres, the club’s management reportedly considers Delap a more viable option.

The 22-year-old striker from Ipswich Town, who developed in Manchester City’s academy, is valued at approximately £30 million, a figure that aligns better with United’s financial constraints, particularly if they also aim to acquire Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, whose valuation exceeds that of Delap by more than double.

Ultimately, United must decide whether to pursue the cost-effective, long-term potential of Delap or to extend their budget for a more established player. Regardless, the necessity for a clinical and consistent forward presence can no longer be overlooked.

Manchester United are most likely to sign Liam Delap

Ben Jacobs suggests that it is financially impractical for Manchester United to acquire both Matheus Cunha and Victor Osimhen in the same transfer window. However, pursuing both Cunha and Liam Delap remains a feasible option. Delap’s attributes are well-suited to the striker profile favored by Rúben Amorim: ‘he is fast, aggressive in pressing, and highly mobile.’

Amorim reportedly views the 22-year-old forward from Ipswich Town as his primary target for this role. Although Delap has yet to prove himself as a consistent goal-scorer in the Premier League, his potential, youth, and familiarity with the Manchester setting render him an attractive choice. Having developed in the Manchester City academy, he is well-versed in high-intensity play and could easily adapt to Amorim’s tactical requirements.

Financially, this move is more sensible than investing in a high-priced player like Osimhen, whose transfer fee would severely limit United’s capacity to strengthen other critical areas of the team. At approximately £30 million, Delap represents a lower-risk, high-reward investment that would allow for additional acquisitions, including Cunha, whose dynamic playing style would enhance Delap’s capabilities.

While Delap may not arrive as a marquee signing, he has the potential to excel in the right circumstances. Acquiring him now would clearly indicate that United is committed to nurturing young talent with the potential for growth, rather than risking a higher expenditure later if he flourishes at another club.

Strategically, Delap could integrate effortlessly into a 3-4-3 formation, a configuration that Rúben Amorim has successfully employed previously. In the role of central striker, Delap would be anticipated to apply intense pressure from the front, hindering the opponent’s build-up play while adeptly maneuvering between centre-backs to generate space.

Amorim’s approach does not require a stationary target man; rather, he seeks dynamism, diagonal runs, and an unwavering work ethic in defense, all of which Delap possesses in abundance. Furthermore, his playing style would be effectively enhanced by rapid wingers, who could offer width and service to capitalize on the spaces Delap creates through his movement. Given consistent playing time and a supportive manager, Delap could develop into a vital asset for United, a player who may not arrive with a high profile but has the capacity to astonish many.
