Manchester United is reportedly contemplating the acquisition of Barcelona midfielder Juan Hernandez Torres. In Erik ten Hag’s inaugural summer with the club, the management spent considerable time attempting to persuade Frenkie de Jong to transfer from Barcelona to join their project.
Ultimately, De Jong opted not to pursue a move to Old Trafford and chose to remain at Camp Nou. Meanwhile, United secured Casemiro from Real Madrid in late August. The midfield is anticipated to be a significant area of focus during Ruben Amorim’s first summer at the club, and reports indicate that the Red Devils are once again monitoring a midfielder from Barcelona.
According to Sky Sports, United has been ‘tracking’ Hernandez Torres, who is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Catalonia. The Spain U18 international is recognized for his exceptional close control and tactical awareness, and he has been widely predicted to achieve great success.
The attacking midfielder, who will turn 18 in July, played a ‘crucial role’ in Barcelona U19’s UEFA Youth League-winning team, making 10 appearances in the tournament this season and scoring two goals, including the decisive goal in the semi-final against AZ Alkmaar.
Hernandez Torres seems poised to make his senior debut under Hansi Flick, who has relied on numerous La Masia graduates during his first season at Barcelona. However, the La Liga club now faces a challenge in retaining him, as two Premier League clubs are showing interest. His current contract with the club extends until the summer of 2026. The report suggests that both United and Chelsea are contemplating ‘whether to activate a £5m (€6m) buyout clause’ in his contract this summer.
It is understood that United and Chelsea have adopted a strategy of pursuing the most promising emerging talents. Recently, The Peoples Person reported that the two English clubs are competing for the signature of young forward Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers.
