Man United’s Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford support Jadon Sancho after ‘setback’

Jadon Sancho has made just four appearances on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United, with almost a month separating their most recent outings for the club

Bruno Fernandes led Manchester United players in supporting Jadon Sancho after the Aston Villa loanee returned from a bout of illness.

Sancho started their Europa League match against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday night. That outing was his first appearance since their opening game of the competition’s league phase at home to Bologna in late September.

He was an unused substitute for their following Premier League match against Fulham, but missed the next two versus Burnley and Feyenoord. Sancho returned to the squad for their first match after the international break before then getting a start away in the Netherlands.

“Good to be back out there on the pitch with the boys after a lil set back due to illness,” Sancho captioned a post on Friday. That was his first post for just over a month since one in the aftermath of their 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Bruno Fernandes, Ethan Wheatley, Joe Hugill, Marcus Rashford, Shea Lacey and Tyrell Malacia all liked the post. As did Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jesse Lingard, plus former Chelsea teammates Pedro Neto and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Current colleague Ian Maatsen also commented with a red heart emoji. Manuel Akanji likewise sent him a message, commenting with a folded hands emoji and a brown heart emoji.

Sancho has made four appearances for Villa since signing on loan. Only one of those, a cameo in the aforementioned draw at Sunderland, came in the Premier League.

Two more were in the Europa League. The other came in their League Cup third-round tie against Brentford.

His quartet of outings have totalled just over 180 minutes. For comparison, that is more than Noussair Mazraoui has managed for United during this campaign, but less than Kobbie Mainoo has.
