Manchester United have completed the signing of Derby County goalkeeper Charlie Hardy, journalist Andy Mitten has revealed.
The 16-year-old shot-stopper will reportedly join the club’s Under-18s side, managed by former Red Devils midfielder Darren Fletcher, and will sign a scholarship.
Hardy will be eligible for a professional contract when he turns 17 in July and becomes the latest exciting prospect snapped up by the Old Trafford side, following the likes of Cristian Orozco and Diego Leon.
Hardy has won five caps for England’s under-16s side and was handed his debut by former Man United youth coach Neil Ryan in August last year.
The goalkeeper spent nine years in Derby’s academy and has made four appearances in the U18 Premier League last season, keeping one clean sheet and conceding eight goals.
Man Utd Sign Goalkeeper Charlie Hardy
Mitten, writing for The Athletic, revealed that Man United have completed Hardy’s signing, with the goalkeeper expected to sign a professional contract when he turns 17 in July:
Man United scouts have been active in finding fresh talent for their academy ranks, with the deal to sign Orozco confirmed earlier this month.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the 17-year-old midfielder will join the Old Trafford side after the season, with an agreement reached with Colombian club Fortaleza over his $1m arrival.
The summer transfer window also saw United add promising left-back Leon, who joined from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno and has been named in Ruben Amorim’s matchday squad four times this term.
The Red Devils also signed defender Ayden Heaven and striker Chido Obi from Premier League rivals Arsenal last term, with both making their league debuts under Amorim during the 2024/25 campaign.
The Portuguese tactician has handed top-flight debuts to six United players aged 20 or under since taking charge in November last year, including academy graduates Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson.
United are ninth in the Premier League table following their 2-1 win at Liverpool last weekend and next host Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
