Man Utd returned from the international break to secure a stunning 2-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.
Ruben Amorim praised Harry Maguire, Senne Lammens and Amad after Manchester United’s win against Liverpool.
Amorim won back-to-back Premier League games for the first time as United boss, emerging with a victory in Merseyside after a late headed goal from Maguire.
Bryan Mbeumo drew first blood when he opened the scoring within two minutes. Liverpool pushed hard to score an equaliser and finally found a breakthrough thanks to Cody Gakpo in the 78th minute.
Gakpo struck the post three times before finding the back of the net. The noise at Anfield increased, sensing the prospect of a late winner, but it was United who scored next to seal an away victory.
Maguire headed brilliantly beyond Giorgi Mamardashvili and received praise from Amorim when the United boss spoke at his post-match press conference. “It is really important and we have a club that has a lot of pressure,” said Amorim about the defender’s mental strength.
“It’s not easy to play here, but all of them have an opportunity to play for us and then they leave and life is like that. Harry Maguire is really important for us and was today. He is a great example, everything he has been through, a great example of every kid.”
Maguire was recalled to the starting team against Liverpool – with Leny Yoro dropped to the bench – after losing his place against Sunderland before the international break.
Lammens built on a confident debut against the Black Cats to make important saves at Anfield.
“He was really important and then sometimes it is a little bit of luck. Two shots on the post, that can change the narrative but he show a lot of character, a lot of quality,” said Amorim.
Amorim was asked about Amad next and responded: “Amad is doing so well in that position [right wing-back], he was perfect for that position. He was upset when I made the sub, but he had a yellow card, if not he will continue in the game, he struggled these weeks but we are here for him.”
