Manchester United Eager to Bolster Attack Further After Cunha Signing

Manchester United’s attacking rebuild under new head coach Ruben Amorim is well underway, with the high-profile signing of Matheus Cunha marking a significant step forward in the club’s summer transfer strategy. The Brazilian forward, who arrives from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is seen as a vital addition to a United side that struggled for consistency and firepower in the final third during the 2024/25 campaign.

Cunha brings a compelling blend of technical quality, mobility, and goal-scoring instinct that United sorely lacked last season. The 25-year-old netted 17 goals in all competitions, 15 of which came in the Premier League, demonstrating his ability to perform at the highest level in English football. His dynamic style of play, combined with sharp movement off the ball and a knack for exploiting defensive spaces, makes him a versatile option for Amorim’s attacking system. Whether deployed centrally or in a wider role, Cunha’s work rate, flair, and composure in front of goal are expected to significantly elevate United’s attacking threat.

For Amorim, the former Atlético Madrid and Hertha Berlin striker ticks many of the boxes he values in a forward: athleticism, adaptability, and an aggressive edge in transitional play. More importantly, Cunha’s pressing intensity and ability to link up with midfielders suit the proactive brand of football the Portuguese coach is keen to implement at Old Trafford. His arrival is being viewed not just as a response to United’s scoring woes, but as a foundational piece in the manager’s broader tactical blueprint.

Yet despite the excitement surrounding Cunha’s signing, Manchester United have no intention of stopping there. The club is intent on continuing its offensive reinforcements, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo emerging as the next priority target. The 24-year-old Cameroon international has caught the attention of United’s recruitment team with his consistent performances in the Premier League, where he has developed into one of the division’s most underappreciated attacking threats.

Mbeumo offers a profile that would complement Cunha well. Known for his direct running, creativity, and ability to operate across the front line, he would add further depth and dynamism to United’s attacking unit. His off-the-ball intelligence and pressing ability also align with the high-intensity approach Amorim prefers. With Premier League experience under his belt and a strong track record of productivity in a system similar to United’s evolving style, Mbeumo is considered an ideal addition to bring balance and competition to the front line.

Talks are reportedly ongoing between Manchester United and Brentford, with initial bids already tabled. United are hopeful of striking a deal that would see Mbeumo follow Cunha through the doors at Carrington before pre-season training intensifies. Should the Red Devils succeed in securing the winger’s signature, it would represent another strong statement of intent as the club looks to shake off the mediocrity of recent campaigns.

Amorim’s hands-on involvement in transfers has already had a noticeable impact, with a clear shift in recruitment strategy becoming evident. Rather than targeting marquee names for headline value, the focus now seems to be on players who are both system-compatible and mentally prepared to thrive under pressure. With Cunha already on board and Mbeumo potentially next, United’s attack is beginning to take a new shape—one built not just on talent, but on tactical purpose.

In what looks set to be a transformative summer, Manchester United are clearly backing their new manager’s vision. And if the club continues its aggressive pursuit of attacking reinforcements, fans may soon see an exciting and cohesive frontline capable of reigniting Old Trafford’s long-dormant attacking identity.
