Better Than Gerrard: Rangers Hold Top Secret Talks With Man Utd Legend

Rangers remain in the hunt for a new manager, and former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held secret talks with the Ibrox outfit, and he might be a better option for them than Steven Gerrard.

The Glasgow giants have endured a difficult time during their pursuit of a new coach, with a host of managers rejecting them so far. GIVEMESPORT sources confirmed last week that Steven Gerrard had pulled out of the race to be appointed as the new Rangers manager, despite being close to reaching a full agreement with the club.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Danny Rohl and Kevin Muscat remain options to take over at Ibrox, while Slaven Bilic has also been discussed. The international break was an ideal time for Rangers to find a new manager and have them in place with plenty of time before their next game, but we’re now just a few days away from the return of Scottish Premiership action.

Solskjaer Holds Secret Rangers Talks

According to former Manchester United midfielder Scholes, Solskjaer has held talks with Rangers, and he’s not seen his name mentioned in the media.

“I was actually with a lad the other night who told me that he was going to meet Rangers. I don’t think he was going for it. They contacted him, and he’s going to meet them in London.”

Although Solskjaer doesn’t have a load of experience in management, he’s no stranger to managing a big club under pressure. The 52-year-old spent 149 games in permanent charge of Manchester United, averaging 1.79 points per game, and his most recent job saw him manage Besiktas in Turkey.

Of course, Gerrard enjoyed success with Rangers, but there’s no guarantee it works again, and Solskjaer won’t be fazed by the prospect of managing a club the size of Rangers. The Norwegian manager was in charge of a host of big-name players during his time at Old Trafford, and he could be a better option for the Ibrox outfit than Gerrard, as it’s always a risk going back to one of your former managers.

It would certainly be a risk appointing Solskjaer too, but with Gerrard off the market, the former Man Utd boss could be a smart option for Rangers as they look to appoint a new boss before the weekend.
