Manchester United have now made initial contact to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.
The Red Devils are in the market for another attacker after securing the signature of Matheus Cunha already this transfer window. GIVEMESPORT sources recently confirmed that United were planning on making a move to sign Brentford forward Mbeumo, with the 20-goal star keen on a move.
It’s also understood that the lack of Champions League isn’t a problem for Mbeumo, and he’d be happy to join Ruben Amorim’s side regardless. It’s certainly a positive sign for supporters that the lack of European football is still allowing them to attract players such as Cunha and Mbeumo.
Mbeumo, who has been described as ‘insane’, enjoyed a sensational season with Brentford, finding the back of the net on 20 occasions in the Premier League. The 25-year-old is reaching the prime of his career, and United are preparing to strike while the iron is hot and bring him to Old Trafford.
If United can add Mbeumo to their attack after already securing the signature of Cunha, it certainly gives Amorim some exciting options in the final third. The Portuguese coach’s system involves having two attacking midfielders playing behind a striker, and Mbeumo and Cunha would be perfect to play in these roles.
What this means for Alejandro Garnacho, who has been linked with a departure, remains to be seen, while Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have also returned from their loan spells.
