Marcus Rashford’s dreams of securing a permanent transfer to Barcelona have taken a major blow despite his promising start.
Following Rashford’s dramatic public fallout with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim shortly after his arrival at the club, it has long been suggested that the forward’s time at the club was over.
The Englishman made just six appearances under Amorim, eventually leaving to join fellow Premier League side Aston Villa, before securing his dream loan move to Barcelona over the summer.
With Rashford’s time at his new club getting off to a perfect start so far, many had assumed that he would join the club on a permanent basis following the end of the season.
However, it now appears that the chances of Rashford staying at Barcelona past his ongoing loan spell have been significantly reduced following a new report about the club’s financial situation.
Once the season ends, Barcelona will have the option to buy Rashford for an agreed fee of €30m (£26m) as detailed in the loan deal with Manchester United.
Given the fact that he has performed well so far, with his brace against Newcastle United securing a win in the club’s Champions League opener, it would be safe to assume that Barcelona will trigger this should be maintain his form.
But, as revealed by The Athletic, the latest figures released by La Liga have now revealed that the Spanish giants official salary limit has fallen by €112million (£97.6m).
This change has mostly been caused by issues over the ‘VIP zones’ lever at the Camp Nou stadium, which a previous club auditor confirmed raised €100m (£87.2m) by selling 25 years of future revenues from 475 VIP boxes at the stadium.
La Liga’s statement confirmed that Barcelona’s current wage limit as of September 2025 sits at €351m (£306m), a drop of €112m (£97.6m) from February’s figures.
