‘I really like…’ Tom Heaton shares what ‘very impressive’ Senne Lammens has done during Man Utd training

On transfer deadline day, Manchester United finally added a new goalkeeper to the ranks in the form of Senne Lammens.

Despite a significant interest in acquiring Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, Manchester United ultimately opted for the Belgian player instead.

Senne Lammens presents a markedly different profile compared to Martinez; he is young and possesses high potential, rather than being a temporary solution.

United considers Lammens to be the finest young goalkeeper available in the market, and his performance over the last year with Royal Antwerp certainly supports this assessment.

In contrast to Altay Bayindir, Lammens excels as a shot stopper, effectively fulfilling the traditional role of a goalkeeper, and he resembles a young David de Gea with some of his remarkable saves.

Recently, Tom Heaton has expressed his opinion on the 23-year-old after observing him during training.

Senne Lammens is already impressing during Manchester United training

Despite his youth, Lammens has drawn comparisons to Thibaut Courtois and is viewed as his potential successor in the Belgian national team.

Courtois has even expressed his belief in Lammens’s future stardom, as he conveyed to Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel through a voice note.

Additionally, another goalkeeper has shown support for Lammens, namely United leader Tom Heaton, who has likely trained closely with the Belgian in recent weeks.

“It’s only been a few days of training, but he appears to be a really good lad,” Heaton remarked on the Training Ground Guru podcast.

“He’s composed yet possesses a strong personality. His goalkeeping fundamentals are quite impressive, and I believe I mentioned that to him after just a couple of days of training.

“At twenty-three years old, joining Manchester United, and after only a few days of training, he has already made a significant impression. I truly appreciate his goalkeeping fundamentals.”

Lammens’s solid ‘goalkeeping fundamentals’ will surely resonate well with United supporters who have witnessed Andre Onana and Bayindir struggle to execute the basics correctly for years.

Now, Ruben Amorim is undoubtedly preparing Lammens for his debut.

Senne Lammens must start for Manchester United vs Chelsea

Last weekend, many anticipated that Lammens would be included directly in the starting line-up; however, Amorim opted to retain Bayindir.

In return for this trust, Bayindir proved to be one of United’s least effective players, as he faltered on nearly all three goals.

Erling Haaland even acknowledged Bayindir’s errors after he netted twice against him, effectively sealing the game.

Following this unfortunate performance, Lammens is almost certain to make his debut against Chelsea this weekend at Old Trafford.

The longer he is kept waiting, the greater the pressure will become, so starting him now, when the minimum performance will be acceptable in goal, presents an easy victory for both the manager and Lammens.
