Manchester United aims to finalize personal terms with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha before his release clause activates at the season’s conclusion, as reported by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Red Devils have already made an offer to the South American player, but a consensus has yet to be achieved between the two parties. Man United is reportedly optimistic about their prospects of acquiring Cunha following discussions, with the Brazilian expressing interest in the transfer; however, a deal with Wolves cannot be finalized until the season concludes.
The financial arrangements are already established for the completion of the transfer, and the potential failure to qualify for the Champions League next season will not deter them, as the forward is willing to join regardless of the outcome of their continental ambitions. Acquiring the 25-year-old could be significant for Man United’s head coach Ruben Amorim, who intends to utilize him as a number 10 due to his versatility and effectiveness in that role for Wolves.
Cunha has recorded 15 goals and six assists in 30 Premier League matches this season, and the Red Devils would benefit from his offensive and scoring abilities in the attacking zone.
Manchester United is also anticipated to acquire a number 9 in addition to the Wolves forward, with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres reportedly indicating to Amorim that he would contemplate a move to the Theatre of Dreams only if assured of Champions League participation.
Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap remains a consideration as well, and enhancing their attacking options with two forwards could significantly impact the upcoming season and beyond. The effectiveness of the transfers made this summer will be crucial in determining Amorim’s success in his inaugural full season at the helm, and it is essential for the Portuguese manager and other decision-makers to make the right choices for both his future and that of the club.
