Haaland sealed the game midway through the second half, outrunning the United defence and slotting home. City could have had more, but United’s defence can thank the woodwork it wasn’t any worse. Ruben Amorim’s flops were again played off the park on an embarrassing day for everyone associated with United.
Leny Yoro, 6 – Kept pace with Doku, who switched sides to set up the opening goal. Was replaced by Harry Maguire to boost United’s goal threat.
Matthijs de Ligt, 5 – Competed well with Haaland until the Norwegian slipped between De Ligt and Luke Shaw to score the second goal. A risky pass nearly led to a goal.
Luke Shaw, 5 – Performed decently in the first half but was exposed as the makeshift centre back he is when Haaland powered past him. Careless for the third goal, too.
Noussair Mazraoui, 6 – Made a confident return in his first start since the Europa League final until he was caught off pace for the second goal. Subbed just after the hour mark.
Manuel Ugarte, 6 – A surprising recall, yet Ugarte was United’s standout player in the first half, performing at a level far removed from his 45-minute stint at Grimsby. However, he couldn’t stem City’s second-half surge.
Bruno Fernandes, 5 – Fernandes was culpable for failing to track the runner for another goal conceded by United, three weeks after Emile Smith Rowe slipped past him at Fulham.
Patrick Dorgu, 4 – Dorgu could have intercepted the play switch that eventually led to Foden’s goal. He had opportunities to assist Sesko, but his crossing was woeful.
Bryan Mbeumo, 6 – Mbeumo saw plenty of the ball but made no impact in the first half before being thwarted by an excellent save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Amad, 5 – For probably the first time, Amad played on the left of the two No. 10s and fluffed a volley. He was nowhere near as influential as he was last season.
Benjamin Sesko, 6 – Sesko posed an early challenge to Donnarumma and had United’s only attempts on goal in the first half. He was quieter in the second half.
Harry Maguire, 5
Kobbie Mainoo, 5
Joshua Zirkzee, 5
Casemiro, 5
