Ratcliffe’s not messing: Man Utd ready to back Amorim, “amazing” star high on January shortlist

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to support Ruben Amorim during the January transfer window, as an “incredible” player has now risen to prominence on Manchester United’s list of targets.

Manchester United concluded their last match with a shaky 3-2 win over Burnley prior to the international break, a result that did little to quell the critics, and club icon Wayne Rooney is of the opinion that the manager will be under significant pressure.

Speaking after the EFL Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town, Rooney said: “Manchester United is so different to where he’s been before. You come in and there’s the media team, the commercial team, the fans and the media.

“There’s a pressure with United, which he will never have felt before. When you’re not winning games, that can start to get [to you] and it looked like he was at a breaking point.”

Consequently, INEOS faces a significant decision regarding Amorim’s future, considering that the Portuguese manager’s performance since his arrival last November has been less than satisfactory, with an average of only 1.37 points per match over 46 games.

Nevertheless, a recent report from TEAMtalk indicates that Ratcliffe and his associates are prepared to support their manager during the January transfer window, implying that the Manchester United ownership continues to have faith in Amorim’s vision.

The 40-year-old is expected to receive financial backing to enhance his squad this winter, with a new central midfielder reportedly being a priority, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is prominently featured on the list of potential targets.

After transferring to Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million last summer, Anderson has experienced a remarkable ascent, recently earning his first call-up to the England national team, and it is fair to assert that the midfielder seized the opportunity effectively, impressing journalist Craig Hope.

“Amazing” Anderson impressing for club and country

The England international has not only attracted attention while representing the Three Lions, but he has also garnered praise for his club performances, having been labeled as “amazing” by former manager Nuno during the previous season.

At just 22 years old, he is an exceptionally versatile midfielder, evidenced by his ability to contribute offensively, as he recorded eight goal contributions in the Premier League last season, in addition to his commendable tackling skills.

It is hardly surprising that Anderson is prominently featured on Manchester United’s shortlist, and he should continue to be a primary target, irrespective of whether Amorim remains until the January transfer window.
