Spain ‘on alert’ for Manchester United’s Lamine Yamal equivalent – Athletic Club already eyeing him up

Spain has been placed on alert regarding Manchester United’s young talent, Víctor Musa, who is being compared to Lamine Yamal. According to AS, Spain aims to prevent a repeat of the situation with Alejandro Garnacho, whom they overlooked.

Musa has been impressing in Manchester United’s youth system, showcasing his scoring ability with six goals in a single match against Leeds in early April, followed by goals against Derby County and Everton, and a brace against Stoke City.

He has netted 15 goals in 18 matches this season, prompting a competition for his international commitment. Born in Tudela, within the Autonomous Community of Navarre, Musa’s father relocated to England in 2016 for employment, with his wife and son joining him a year later.

This background grants him eligibility for both nations, and his outstanding performances for Manchester United have certainly caught attention.

Some individuals in Spain believe he could be the equivalent of Manchester United’s Lamine Yamal, and the Spanish football association aims to replicate their previous strategy to secure his commitment for the future. This involves securing his allegiance early to prevent any rival interest.

The young talent has already represented Spain’s U-16 team at the end of 2021, followed by a subsequent appearance for England at the same level a month later. Although he has not received an international call-up since, it is anticipated that a competition between England and Spain will arise, with Nigeria potentially emerging as a third option.

Additionally, there is club-level interest, as Manchester United’s Europa League adversaries, Athletic Club de Bilbao, have reportedly taken notice of him, aligning with their philosophy, and a report from 2023 indicated their pursuit of him. Nevertheless, Musa’s aspiration is to play for Manchester United, and his primary focus remains on that goal, while his international allegiance is yet to be determined.
