A possible fitness boost has been given to Manchester United in advance of their forthcoming matches against Brentford and Chelsea. Ruben Amorim’s team recovered from a shocking Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town, but the Red Devils have had a very uneven start, winning, drawing, and losing in their first three games. Their only victory came in a close 3-2 victory against recently promoted Burnley before halftime.
Following the break, United will play Brentford, Manchester City, and Chelsea over the course of three weekends in a challenging schedule that might determine the course of the season.
Diogo Dalot’s return from Portugal duty with a new injury raised concerns for United ahead of those games, but there is brighter news with summer acquisition Matheus Cunha. After the game, Amorim stated: “It was difficult to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, as Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury.” Cunha hobbled off against Burnley the last time out. Given how crucial they are to us, I’m worried about that. In a different update, he added, “We shall see.” “I don’t know [how they are], I don’t know.” We’ll examine them. We really need those guys to be fiercely competitive.
Fortunately for the Red Devils, Cunha shared a picture of himself working out at the gym on his Instagram story with the remark, “Sundays.” That would imply that Cunha is aiming for a comeback, and even if he is unable to play against City this weekend, the Brazilian will undoubtedly be hoping to play against Brentford and Chelsea. Naturally, the forward’s ailment prevented him from traveling with the Brazil team during this international window.
Cunha on his dream move
Cunha joined United on a £62.5million in the summer, and explaining why he made the move, he told the club website: “Maybe outside, I think maybe my decision, they don’t understand. But when you have always dreamed to play here, it’s easier to pick this decision. For me, no-one else is like United. Of course, I know it’s been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me, and what I believe this club can be.
“It is hard to find a way to explain this club for me. My house didn’t have the channel to watch the Premier League. My cousin’s house didn’t have the channel. He’s older than me and he supports United and he showed me the way, to start to watch the Premier League and to need to support United.
“Only in my grandma’s house, we can watch the Premier League, so we organised to go every weekend. And for me, it was always a bit inside of me, this club. When I play with him in the street, on the beach, on the gravel pitch, we called these pitches ‘Old Trafford’. Imagine! So, wow, it’s so hard to be here now, thinking about the past — it’s very emotional for me.”
