Manchester United will probably try to be active in the transfer market when it reopens for business, regardless of what transpires between now and January.
In order to acquire Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens, Ruben Amorim’s team spent more than £210 million in the summer. There are more questions than answers, notwithstanding their business.
They are still looking for a new center-back and midfielder because they were left unfilled in the previous transfer window. United hopes to continue rebuilding now that they don’t have to deal with European competition.
With that in mind, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest transfer news from Old Trafford…No
Amorim plotting Sporting reunion
Regarding defensive reinforcements, United intends to make a move for Zeno Debast, a center-back for Sporting CP. The Reds are reportedly keeping an eye on the 21-year-old and may make a bid, according to GiveMeSport.
United reportedly dispatched scouts to observe Debast after working with Amorim in the past. The defender’s Lisbon deal includes a £70 million release clause.
MEN Sport says: “Debast falls into the category of players who have showcased their quality in Europe but have question marks over his ability at the top level. However, at 21, he’s had potential for a number of years dating back to his Anderlecht days.
“United are well-stocked in defence meaning a move for an inexperienced individual would give him the time to develop at Old Trafford. However, they can’t justify that price tag so they’d have to look at a way of structuring the right financial package.”
Baleba bid planned
To ward off competitor interest, United intends to make an official bid for Carlos Baleba, a midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion, in January.
Journalist Shaun Connolly claims that the midfielder has pleaded with the Seagulls to accept a good offer since he is keen to join United. According to reports, the Cameroon international is eager to move to Old Trafford whether or not United plays European football.
MEN Sport says: “Baleba is a player who United are expected to be linked with throughout the next few months ahead of January. The prospect of a move to Old Trafford is tempting for anyone and this is a move they will want to complete.
“Like defence, midfield is a priority for Amorim, a holding one to be precise. Baleba may cost a fair bit but he could be the perfect fit. However, the £115m+ price tag being touted means a January deal feels unlikely.”
