‘Not easy’ – Manchester United could reap £74m reward from ‘very good’ international break

Benjamin Sesko’s £74 million transfer from RB Leipzig to Manchester United was undoubtedly the team’s most striking summer acquisition.

Sesko was thought to be the guy to put a stop to United’s goal-scoring problems, especially after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined for just seven Premier League goals last season.

The 22-year-old Leipzig player scored 21 goals across all competitions the previous season, but it’s safe to say he hasn’t taken off at Old Trafford.

He has only played 80 minutes in United’s opening three league games and has yet to start a Premier League game. His lone start came in the team’s shocking Carabao Cup loss to League Two team Grimsby Town.

Sesko told the local media that he was shocked by the level of play in England as opposed to Germany when he met up with his Slovenian international teammates at the beginning of the week.

“The level of the matches is certainly much higher, the players and teammates are also at a higher level. After all, English football is at the highest level in the world of football,” Sesko told Ekipa.

“But I am very much looking forward to the coming period, also because I am getting better and faster in every training session, and I am also progressing in my football mentality every day.

“I wanted to move to England and, fortunately, my wish came true.”

He will be looking to return to Manchester with a bounce in his step following a successful international break. That next time begins with a trip to Manchester City in the season’s first Manchester derby.

In Slovenia’s 2-2 draw with Sweden in Ljubljana on Friday night, he undoubtedly got off to the ideal start by creating a late equalizer.

Sesko juggled the ball in midair and managed to hold off the Swedish defense. He was able to locate his teammate Zan Vipotnik, who scored a crucial point for Slovenia by shooting past goalie Robin Olsen.

“[Sesko] did a great job, it was not easy with the tall and strong Swedish defenders,” Vipotnik told Slovenian outlet Ekipa.

“I followed his action and when I got into a shooting position, I did not hesitate. Luckily I scored.”

Sesko played the full 90 minutes which should improve his sharpness. He will now hope to face Switzerland on Monday when Slovenia take in their second World Cup qualifier of Group B at Basel’s St Jakob Park.
